- NorCal_DanExplorerWe've done 2 seasons in Coffeyville, Sep/Nov 2009 and Apr/Oct 2013. They give 2 paid 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute un-paid lunch. Bathroom breaks are taken as needed.
It's not a career and we are not there to tell them how to do the job. What we as workampers bring to the table is a good work ethic, a desire to help with the holiday orders, and stuffing our bank accounts with $$.
On my exit interview I told them we wouldn't be back unless they raise the hourly rate...they pay the same as when we worked for them in 2009. - MarslandExplorerThe DW and I have 4 working days left here at Fernley(yeah). Started Oct 5 and while we probably won't do it again there is a certain amount of satisfaction to completing the contract. Yes you do work hard, have long hours, up to 50 hours mandatory per week with opportunity for a few more, 40 hours minimum. Amazon pays for the camp site but not propane and electric (at Fernley). As said before, you work at Amazon's beck and call and if you can deal with that and just go with the flow you will succeed. Lot's of nice people, that's one of the nice things. If you are prone to not being flexible you probably won't like it.
The weather here has been unseasonably cold and that, while not Amazon's fault, made the time here more difficult. RV's are not made for weather in the single digits. Just complicates things.
All in all, we are very glad to be going home next week. The bank account is the big beneficiary. In general when working here we spent less money than we would have otherwise so we saved in that regard also.
I've read comments from people who bad mouth the Amazon Camperforce program. It benefits a lot of people. Nobody is forced into this job and Amazon does inform well as to the working conditions. If you don't like it walk away.
Well that's my 2 cents. We're glad we did it and glad we're going home soon. - IroverExplorerOh! and amazon does not schedule bathroom breaks; I worked for the Campbellsville Ky. You get two 10 minute breaks and 1 30 min break for lunch on a 8-10 hr shift. And yes you are expected to keep moving during work hours, no sitting.
- robsouthExplorer IIIt is not meant to be your dream job. It is for you to get as much money as you can for working a limited time period. There is a regular on these forums that works there (I think this is her second year) and perks include free parking with hookups, a meal (depends on your shift) good pay for overtime, etc. Sounds like a win-win to me. Most will presign on for next year at another location to vary the experience.
- PawPaw_n_GramExplorerIt is a viable option for many people.
But it is also seven to ten hours a day - doing things EXACTLY the Amazon way. You are not paid to think, you are paid to follow the process.
Some folks love it, some don't.
It does seem to be a bit physically demanding. Work when and where told. Scheduled bathroom breaks, food breaks.
Many folks call it boring assembly line work.
Others call it one week's free camping for every two days worked. - Gale_HawkinsExplorerIt is a good pool of employes filtered by intelligence and motivation.
- tkcas01ExplorerWhat a concept! Cool. I bet it is not boring!
