Camping alone

Depends on your comfort level.

DW and I boondock all the time alone. No one else around, often in a spot so remote you could not find us if I gave you the coordinates and a map.

I hike and mountain bike alone all the time, including a 4 hour solo mountain bike ride on a remote trail today. Hike and backpack off-trail cross country alone, been doing it for yours without a worry.

Depends upon your comfort level. I worry more about personal safety in a crowded campground near an urban center than way out in the woods.

The words are from a commercial site that sells "caravan tours" during which folks stay at RV Parks in Mexico.

Aha! that explains it. They are trying to scare you and sell you the safety of their tour. Very little that comes from someone selling is worth considering.

Not true, I have met the guy(Dan Goy) who runs Baja Amigos. He is so busy he has had to hire another set of wagon masters, so he does not need to scare people into taking his tours. Camping alone on a beach anywhere entails some risks. If you are camping alone on beach in a country which has more poor people obviously your chances of being a property crime victim is higher. I spend every winter in Mexico in an RV and i usually travel with at least one or 2 others (useful if you break down). Although I have never had an incident, I would not camp alone on a remote beach in Mexico and I would hesitate to do it in the US as well.

I get offers from these caravan companies all the time and I love the idea but don't have the time. Some people just have to knock any idea they don't come up with themselves which drags the thread out.:S

DW & I frequently camp at a federal CG up in the hills during winter months. There have been a number of trips when we were the only RV in the CG. Always feel safe when camping alone there. The solitude is very nice.

I've lived in major cities -- Im not too scared of living in my motor home...yet.

I have enjoyed camping alone (by alone I mean with my SO, so far have not camped by myself completely yet but would not object to it) as well as in a crowded area. Honestly, I like both scenarios, as both have pluses and minuses for me. I like the solitude sometimes, but there are other times I really don't mind the crowded CG's as I also enjoy some nightlife and still like to stay up late and don't get irritated by noise past quiet time (within reason. people up late partying and not being TO obnoxious is one thing but if the dog is barking incessantly all night my nerves will be seriously plucked!). CG's with more people do open up more situations to get near a clueless neighbor whose behavior can get downright egregious at times, but so far in all of my many years of camping the times that I can count where I had a neighbor who was downright obnoxious and belligerent can be counted on one hand and not even use all the fingers.

Camping can come in all forms and the cool thing is there is a venue for virtually every choice.

This summer at our favorite lake, I was in camp by myself for 3 days when DH had to go back home to work. Driving through the campground the morning after he had gone home, I realized our 5er was the only rv in the park! The dogs and I were just fine, though I did let the Park Service guy know I was there alone. He and his wife came by several times to check on me. They were very nice and the closer it got to the weekend, the more folks pulled in around me. I was only concerned (not worried though) when a storm came up and the wind really howled! I was concerned that a tree limb would come crashing down. Other than that, no problems.
We camp in the National Forest as well, usually by ourselves. We can see other campers across the meadow, but most times people who camp up there alone - want to be alone. So, other than waving as they drive past, we tend to leave people to enjoy the solitude.

I only go camping if I'm alone or with someone. :B
