- Gonzo42ExplorerBack in '72 in my only trip to Yellowstone, I spent most of the day chopping firewood and stacking it between two small trees. At dinnertime a church youth group came in and set up next door. Soon three teenagers were helping themselves to a big portion of my labor.
I informed them that they were stealing, but they complained they didn't have any firewood. I told them to take what they had and never come back. End of story.
Last year at a CA State Beach the Ranger had let somebody else camp in the space I had reserved. He refused to evict them and passed us to a different space. I wasn't happy because we had no shade. Nothing I could do at the time and it was only for one night. - VeebyesExplorer III rattled somebodys cage one day. It seems the neighbour was under the impression that the dry camping area we were in was a 'no genny' area. It was not. It had restricted hours.
For most of the day I was on my inverter, even during the genny permissable hours. Fired the genny up, a Honda 2000, for the last hour or so of genny hours. Well, I let it run a few minutes past the bewitching hour as I was in the middle eating dinner. Mr Silence was on his pedal bike & off to get the ranger. By the time he gets back, ranger in tow, dinner is over & genny is off. Ranger says his little piece & shrugs his shoulders no too happy about having his time wasted.
Mr Silence was gone first thing next morning. - Happy_Camper200ExplorerNot really an altercation but, several years ago we had some campers next to us that had injested too many adult beverages :E and decided they wanted to skinny dip in the lake right in front of a whole loop of campers. Later, the ladies started dancing on the picnic table...almost naked! Interesting evening to say the least :B

Due to another posting about this that took this too far, I removed my note. Sorry. - Caveman_CharlieExplorer II

I put in a kill switch for my daytime running light just for that very reason
I just pulled the fuse for them. There dumb anyway. - Caveman_CharlieExplorer II

Thinking back over those many years of camping, mostly in USFS campgrounds, but a few commercial RV parks, I can't think of any real "altercations".
I tend to ignore stray children and dogs.
I seldom make reservations; in fact, most of the campgrounds we go to don't accept reservations.
I don't recall ever encountering noisy/obnoxious drunks.
There have been a few guys who feel the need to get up and go fishing half an hour before sun-up, but they are easy to ignore.
There were the people who pitched their tent right under our bedroom window, and set up their kitchen right next to our generator exhaust, but we just closed the window, didn't use the generator when they were cooking, and ignored them.
I refuse to allow others to spoil my camping experience.
Good attitude. I'm with you. There was one time when I was camping and I kinda like my privacy. But,a big family pulled into the spot next door later that night and there kids were running all over the place. Heck, there kids, I was a kid once too. So, I didn't say anything that night. The next day I drove around the park and found someone else had pulled out of a spot and it was a better spot then the one I was in anyway. So, I just hooked up and moved to the better spot away from the big family and everyone had a good time. - imadtchmnExplorer

(I didn't know about this at the time) When I saw her drive into the park with "That Look" on her face I got into my truck and got the heck out of there. I came back a hour later to find; sure enough; the police had been called. Seems she yelled at him out loud and of course since women are always the victim some one called the police on there cell phone and the cops showed up yelling at everybody to get out the ground and such. You know the drill. After the dust settled no one got arrested but my name got told to the police and I wasn't very happy about that. I'm still friends with the whole family but, I no longer go camping with them. If there going to bring there problems and argue at the park I want nothing to do with that.
- ddschumanExplorerWe arrived at a campsite that we had reserved a few months in advance only to find someone else in it. We didn't really want to ask them to leave at first as they were cooking on the grill outside so we drove around trying to find another site we could fit in. All the available sites were too small. He was in a very small single axle TT vs our 37' FW. He could fit anywhere so we pulled up and told him he was in the spot we reserved. His response was he'd move but he figured when we were not there by 6pm, we were not coming. It wasn't even 6:30 and we'd been on the road all day. We had even called ahead to tell them we'd be a late arrival and asked if that was ok. There was a clear "RESERVED" sign on the post. We always "try" to get to campsites before 6pm out of respect but we had run into some construction that day that really slowed us down. He did move but he didn't look happy about it.
