I tried driving it w/o the WD bars for a short 15 mi relocate once. Once. I'm not doing that again. Using the WDH the Tahoe sits within an inch of level and feels solid.
That being said I think if I cant the hitch more toward the trailer it will give me more room to tighten the chains on the WDH and take a little more. Right now I only have 3 links on the Reese hitch and am afraid if I take any more out I won't have enough play for turns.
