Can't identify hitch or class of hitch

I just bought a 1994 Ford F-350 dually and someone painted over the hitch tag in black.I have tried to clean it off and did get some numbers but not all.

On the bottom of the tag left to right there is a V-5 then part number 6034.I cannot tell if there is a number before the 6.

First row up from bottom horizontally...6000-600
Right above it is...??000-1200..I think the second number is a 6

Are they read horizontal or vertical? Is there any other way to determine what hitch and class this hitch is other than possibly a hitch shop looking and knowing?
  • Thank you for the replies..I just took it to the local welder whom welds for all the logging outfits and ranchers for his opinion on the hitch and the capabilities of it.He says the hitch is solid and reinforced in all the right places and he would haul a backhoe with that hitch on that truck...Good enough for me..

I did not want to upgrade the hitch unless I had to but I did need to know what it was capable of.
  • As stated above, it is probably 6,000lbs total trailer weight and 600lbs tongue weight when use in weight carrying mode.

It is probably 12,000lbs total trailer weight and 1,200lbs tongue weight when used in weight distribution mode.
Those numbers relate to what is commonly known as a Class III hitch or Class IV when used in WD mode.

I must say however that those numbers are most likely from an installed aftermarket hitch. The normal receiver limits for those years of Ford F250 and F350 (which used the same receiver) was 500/5,000 and 1,000/10,000. Same classification as above.

  • The 6,000/600 numbers are the weights it is rated for without a weight distributing hitch. The second set of numbers is most likely 12,000/1,200. That is the weight the hitch is rated for when using a WDH.
