The air in California is better than it was decades ago because of all the regulation.
Not 100% on topic, but I have heard of visitors getting cited/fined for having non CARB gasoline containers for their gennys and off road toys.
My relatives still living in CA thank you in advance for your compliance.
I live in California and have never heard of any body getting cited for a gasoline container. NO ONE cares about weather you have a new style gas can or an old one. By the way, gas cans are made the same in all states.
Just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I was studying up on the best style to buy/use when I bought my genny. The reviews for some models were from people who went to CA with OHV toys and were cited for their old-style cans and have now purchased spill-proof containers to be in compliance. - coolbreeze01Explorer

I modified all my new containers to old school. They work really well now.
What method did you use? OK if you don't want to post though. The water can replacement spouts seem to be candidates.

Instead of valve stems, I bought some vent caps off ebay. - Dave_H_MExplorer II

Only partly correct.
I live in CA also - and never heard of anyone being cited for "old style" containers.
There are *NO* "old style" containers (pre spill-proof gas cans, metal or plastic) available anywhere in the USA, except for private party "re-sales".
When the *EPA* (The Feds) mandated the new style containers a few years ago, *heavy* fines were imposed on retailers of/for any non-compliant "old-style" gasoline containers sold after the cut-off date!
Apparently they (the retailers) were all believers!..:W
Consequently, the "old style" metal Jerry cans and NATO cans virtually disappeared from inventories all over the USA almost overnight - be it brick and mortar stores or mail order.
The cut-off was Jan 1 - and they were gone by Sept-Oct of the year prior to that.
*IF* you happen on any old style Jerry cans or NATO cans at a garage sale (or?) - snatch 'em up!..:C
Ditto the screw-on flexible metal fill tubes.
BTW - fines for an incorrect container/s could happen, although very unlikely.
State and Fed campground rangers *could* be zealots, depending on location and the individual (Mr. Ranger) behind the badge.
(As well as off-road MC parks where rangers *do* check for exhaust spark arrestors)..:W

Some seem stupid even to me but eventually all states will have regulations like California.
The cleaner the emissions are now, the longer we will have big, heavy motorhomes to enjoy our travels in. And as other have said, they were designed to work efficiently with all those control devises. Think of the weight problems a 35' Class A motorhome would have, not to mention the battery problems including the size required for battery storage compartments. - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer

Classic: "I explained that the campers ten spots down from me were running an extremely loud construction generator way past quiet hours."
Hmmmm.....the generator -vs- ranger story is "different".
Something missing there!
And... the Forest Service is a US agency, enforcing US Forest Service regs - same throughout the USA.
Which, by the way, has *nothing* to do with this thread and catalytic converters on vehicles...:S
OP Paranoia:
CA doesn't care what you do with/to your vehicle licensed in another state - unless you were going to register (license) it in CA.
Nor is anyone going to report you to CARB, the CHP, or Mr. Ranger..:R
However - the folks in *your* state may have "problems" at some time with your modification plans to Federally mandated vehicle emissions systems..:W
Which may result in expensive problems for *you*!...:(
DOT/EPA compliance inspections generate revenue for states.
ALL states ALWAYS need/want to increase revenue.
Don't have vehicle inspections now/yet? - You will...:W
Anyway, as "rollingslow" said in the first (and best) reply to your question......
"You don't have to worry if you don't live in ca"...;)

I would think that simply looking to see if any sensors were after the converter would determine if whether the puter would notice a change in the system or not.
Not to worry about me folks. If the catcon is a catalytic converter, my Triton still exhales thru one or is it two?
I think any vehicle made after mid 1990 with the OBD II system has O2 sensors after the converter.
OBD III is coming some day in the not to distant future. When it does it will wirelessly communicate all of your cars emissions and even maybe other things.
