Actually the heat wave is upon us right now today. Plenty of reserves in CA. Feel free to plug in.
Maybe the real question is, when the heat wave hits, should CG pedestals be repurposed for charging EV’s??… Like it or not this will surely be the position of some affected others…Just saying…

Although still best to conserve from 4 to 9 pm. However there will be NO enforcement.
Plenty of reserves? If you have plenty of reserves why bother asking for conservation? Because its the fun thing to do?
"California residents have been asked to conserve electricity for another day as a heat wave sweeps the West.
The state's energy grid operator issued another statewide Flex Alert, calling for conservation from 4 to 9 p.m. PT due to "increasing high heat, tightening energy supplies and more potential strain on the grid."
Californians are strongly urged to lower electricity use, setting thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, health permitting.
In addition, the California Independent System Operator (ISO) instructed residents to avoid using major appliances and turn off unnecessary lights." - 3_tonsExplorer III

….As far as enforcement goes, you might check out what’s happening in Colorado where the electric provider has been forced to take over control of folks smart thermostats… Are we to assume Californians will gain an exemption from such??…

I have signed up for similar to allow my utility to turn off my A/C compressor if needed. I get paid a small credit on my bill as an incentive.
This is not some unauthorized Orwellian government takeover of the thermostats as your statement seems to imply. Why not tell the truth of things?
Orwell has nothing to do with it as he dealt in the realm of the fictitious, whereas the news from Colorado is very much ‘real world’ - but your’s is yet another example of how when provided the opportunity, folks generally respond affirmatively to incentives (as well as subsidies…) of which I can agree!…BTW, my assumption is that the Colorado electric provider did this out of NECESSITY, so in spite of your myopic interpretation there was no parsing intended from my end (Geeeeze!!).

Assuming California has any reserves (hopefully so…), it’s only made possible by their now reliance on energy imports from neighboring States (like mine…)….As far as enforcement goes, you might check out what’s happening in Colorado where the electric provider has been forced to take over control of folks smart thermostats… Are we to assume Californians will gain an exemption from such??… (personally, I think not)…And can we dismiss the more rural areas where tons of CG’s are located??
BTW, some Good news is in order !!…it’s been recently reported that a whopping 7 giga-tons of new ice have recently been added to Greenlands ice sheet - some cause for optimism!!

And, as most EVs are only capable of pulling small trailers, you aren't likely to see one campsite pulling power to charge the EV plus run 2+ ACs, 2 televisions, a microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, electric fireplace heater, electric blanket, etc.
Don't forget that you can have a 45 foot diesel pusher with 3 ACs and a clothes dryer towing an EV that needs charging.
We used to do that. We rarely charged at a campsite though. Usually at charging facilities when we were out and about. In a pinch we charged overnight with our level charger. 1.4 kw draw. Meh.3 tons wrote:

When the US went off the gold standard and the value of the dollar dropped relative to other currencies it just made the imports more expensive. Then came gasoline price controls.
Reisender said, “When we charge in a campground we are almost always on a 30 amp site. Our car can’t pull more than 24 amps. Literally can’t trip the breaker. But our little trailer can. Between AC, hot water, fridge, converter, microwave etc etc. Easy to pop the breaker.”
Well, I’m old enough to recall the gas rationing of the 70’s (due to OPEC), snd the long lines at the service stations (even and odd days, etc) and saw more than one uber heated argument (and WORSE!)…Are we to suppose that human nature has by now evolved enough to avert such hostile interpersonal behavior??

There was never a shortage. The tankers were lined up at sea to unload and price controls limited what the oil companies were willing to spend. All we had was domestic oil and that was not enough to go around at the time.
Ok, but without drifting into such root-cause arguments such as Rentier (ron-tee-AA) capitalism versus the historical anomaly (an Overton’s window event) of democratically devised Industrial Capitalism (ending serfdom, making possible private property ownership and the Industrial Revolution) - the 70’s OPEC crisis was just a earlier graphic example whereby the rationing of energy that restricted folks needs, wants and desires, sometimes triggered some awfully bad behavior… That was my only point (though admittedly an ardent fan of world history :) ..)
