It's always been like this in this particular conservation area and is aimed at preventing rowdiness in what is considered a family park, not a party park. It's a "wink & nod" regulation and I've never heard of responsible adults enjoying a quiet glass of wine around the campfire being bothered. Most of our Ontario provincial parks also restrict alcohol for 10 days leading up to and including our Victoria Day long weekend in May, which we Canadians ironically refer to as the May Two-Four weekend. :W
