- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIHere is a good Q&A for C2C info..........LINK
C2C is an affiliate membership program. You can not just buy a C2C membership
First you have to buy into a 'home' park and depending on that 'home' parks affiliation determines which C2C program you can buy (Classic/Deluxe/Premier)
You have the buy in cost for home park, the annual dues for home park and the annual dues for the level of C2C
Then you can stay at the various affiliate CGs around the US & Canada based upon $10/nite standard hookup.
The affiliate CGs can up-charge for 50A service, premium site, sometimes for sewer.
We have used C2C for 7 yrs. of FT travel
We bought our 'home' park and Deluxe C2C (allows for stays up to 14 days-----Classic is 7 days) via RESALE (the ONLY way to buy a membership).
Our home park annual dues are $59/yr (frozen) and the Deluxe C2C annual dues are $149/yr
Hidden fees...not by C2C
Some CGs have up-charges but they are listed in directory so not really hidden
BUY RESALE.........cheap
BUT only IF you are really going to use it. Otherwise..waste of monies - john_betExplorer III looked at it a couple of times and it did not suit our travel plans or routes to where we were going, so decided it was not worth it.
- JJBIRISHExplorerC2C has a shrinking membership and a shrinking number of member parks… because of exactly what Old-Biscuit and so many others have done…
So unless things have changed, It is supposed to be a reciprocal agreement between the member parks… but many of the home parks being sold on the used market, are selling memberships to people that never intend to use them as a home park, just a vehicle to get them into the use of the reciprocal system… all this does is load the system up making it much harder to get reservations, especially in the more popular areas…
Most of these sleazy home parks sell so many of what are supposedly used memberships they could never accommodate their own members reasonably let alone the traveling public… they are gaming the system (and crushing the C2C system under its own weight)…
So many of the good parks have dropped out of the system because of the gamers that now C2C has to rely more heavily on its good neighbor system than it does member parks to ensure space for its traveling C2C members… however these GN parks set their own restrictions, like blocking out entire seasons in the most popular places…
I don’t know how many member parks there are left, but I would guess about 1/3 of what there once was (somewhere around 1400+ then)…
I saved a lot of money using C2C when there were a lot of member parks and you could get into them…
So used is the cheap way to buy, as long as you are aware that each one brings C2C closer to its end… - tahiti16ExplorerWhile there are parks selling memberships just as you described JJbirish that is not the majority of used memberships for sale out there. Many of the large systems used memberships are up for sale all the time, Western Horizons, TT, Sunrise, K/M etc. But his point of only buying if you will use it and then look for what you want on the used market is absolutely true. We have a western zone TT right now and looking at an upgrade through used market because it is 3K cheaper than buying upgrade direct from TT.
The lack of parks has more to do with parks and park systems going under due to poor management and/or take the money and run management of sell and suck all the profit out of the system on the way out the door! Half a dozen parks within 100 miles of me are now regular public parks after the membership park folded and the individual park was bought out of BK. - RVcrazyExplorerBK?
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIYES the number of affiliate CGs has shrunk. As did the number of RV mfgs., number of traveling RVrs, etc. Downturn in the economy, poor management, lack of visitor due to run down facilities.
A lot of bad CGs closed.....YEAH!
Whether I bought my 'home' park directly or via resale has nothing to do with use of home park. The only restriction is I can not use an affiliate CG within 125 air miles of the home park.
We like our home park and use it when in that area........and we use C2C CGs when it suits us in our travels.
Buying resale and using it is just being a smart shopper.
Those resales are existing memberships not just made up ones.
Buy a new suit, use it then consign it and resale it....didn't create another suit just changed ownership of the original suit.
Home parks sell a lot of memberships directly----as many as they can.
Affiliate CGs be they C2C, RPI, AOR, ROD etc. have always 'blocked out' certain times for their own members use.....not just Good Neighbor (or Encore). They are private CGs and have 'members' only times.
We have never had a problem getting a reservation in 7 yrs.
One must make reservations (sometimes some CGs will accept if you just show up) which is easily done, and you are fully aware of which CGs & what time period is blocked out. It's just called planning.
BUY resale (an existing membership) and USE it. - JJBIRISHExplorerThe buyer of used isn’t causing the problem, if you use them you can save money… and if you use the home park a lot and the C2C when away from home you can save a lot of money…
The problem is in the greed of the parks driving the used market, and driving some of the better parks out of the system…
I have used (3)membership parks exclusively and C2C in between them for several years of full time camping and making camping fees a minor expense for me… less than a morning stop at Starbucks for many…
This began before the economy woes long before that isn’t behind any of it…
There have been blackout dates in the past like a holiday weekends, because the home park was filled with its own members… but never 5 or 6 months straight to sell space to only outsiders… - rogerramjet442Explorermy wife and i have been in it since 1989 and have saved a lot over the years. since the computer has come along it is easy to find out availability and make res.WE are going to give ours campground membership and C 2 up due to health and we got a permenant lot.
