Comment on RedMax Pro

Not trying to beat a dead horse but..... I notice a lot of comments for and against using it for RV's. I posted how I did mine and it was awesome and very easy to maintain. After three years of just wash and rinse I started noticing a little bit of flaking. It was spotty and just in certain areas.:h I bought some stripper,(not that kind!), and removed it all and reapplied the RMP. Again, it came out beautiful. I think I finally figured out why it was flaking. All the areas were on the lower half of the trailer and below/around the windows. I clean the windows with Windex that contains ammonia. The overspray was landing on the finish and after a while started eating it away. It was very gradual since Windex doesn't overspray that much but over a couple years.....Plus I think using dish soap on the finish is kinda hard on it. Now I will be careful when cleaning the windows and use a mild soap designed for vehicles. Just FYI for those that used this on their RV's. I'll report in again in a couple years.:W

  • The Zep floor wax is the same and HD and Lowes both carry it. Zep makes, or made, RMP3.

I to am having problems with sunburn and RMP3. The front caps the worst, but some other problems are showing up now. When we get home I will remove in the bad areas and reapply. My prep will be remove wax, wash with car soap, scrub with Bar Keepers Friend, rinse off, wash with car soap, rinse, wash again with clear water and dry. Apply 3 to four coats of RMP3. Same as lats time but easier than the fiberglass stuff.
  • I can not find Red Max Pro #3 anywhere in California. Can anyone provide a link to either a retail store in Northern California or on-line? Amazon is TRYING to sell a gallon for $40 and that's just stupid. Thanks!
  • I also have some flaking on the entry side. Nobody has prepared any better than what I did or even close to the work I did. I still feel it is better than 2 to 3 wax jobs each year. I will have to wait until we arrive back home in April to correct the problem.

No good product! After 3 years, mine is flaking severely. It might be because of the hot sun out here in the southwest..
I guess I'll just have to strip and apply it again...

I am sure mine was related to the hot sun. My Sandpiper was parked under our RV shed the entire time at home while we were not traveling. The nose was the only part of the fifth-wheel that was exposed to sunlight and the nose was the only place we experienced flaking. A quick strip and recoat fixed that.

This is a sign of bad prep IMHO. What did you do before you applied?

I have to agree 10%, with its all in the "Prep Work", Period. We put RMP on our Motorhome over 3 years ago. And it still shines like the day is was finished. Not so much as one flaw, or flaking or Pealing.

A good Prep, makes all the difference in the world. I bought enough RMP to do our Motorhome completely three times if It ever needs it again. And it for sure makes an older Motorhome look much better, and for sure a whole lot cheaper than a "Re-Painting Job" it would take to make it shine like it does right now.

Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill & our 2 Yorkie Kids that travel with us.

Yes. I did reapply one coat a year. It has been parked in the sun in So. Cal. I think the secret is to take the time to prep it before applying and then use a detergent made for RVs and be careful with ammonia products. Ammonia will strip off any wax, not just RMP. If you have an RV with a chalky or dull finish the results will amaze you.

  • I wonder what would have happened had you just washed and reapplied a few coats under the window? Have you applied additional coats each year as originally suggested? I have not, and also applied originally 3 years ago, 4 coats. Still looks great, and I haven't noticed any flaking. That was time well spent! Thanks for the heads up on the Windex.
