- RoyBExplorer IIThats OK - Thanks --- folks keep asking questions about the COMPANION unit and I havent laid my hands on one yet... I guess the only different between this and the standard EU2000i is the one 20A connector is changed out for a 30A twist-on connector???
If this was the only 2KW Honda generator I had I would definitely be using a multi-ports drop cord with it since it only one 120VAC 20AMP connector on the front panel...
Thanks again for the info...

ThatsOK - I take it then the TWIST LOCK connection is "HOT" when just running the COMPANION TYPE Generator by itself. You only 13.3AMPS out of the 30AMP connection unless you are paralleled to another 2KW Generator and then you would get 26.6AMPS.
That was a question I had...

Yes,
13.3 running amps.
The generator seems to handle a 20 amp surge a few times without kicking out.
The reason we made the heavier 10 GA cable with the twistlock 30 amp was to have the more secure connection.
Plus we try to avoid using undersized adapters that melt and stress the plug outlets.
...have to abide by those MIL-SPEC requirements ya know :)
(J\king of course) - RoyBExplorer IIThatsOK - I take it then the TWIST LOCK connection is "HOT" when just running the CAMPANION TYPE Generator by itself. You only 13.3AMPS out of the 30AMP connection unless you are paralleled to another 2KW Generator and then you would get 26.6AMPS.

This is the 10 foot adapter cable we use to connect to the fiver:

The Honda will start the 15K AC unit with everything else off including unplugging the 65 amp convertor.
It is possible to cool the coach a little with this generator.
Too much AC cycling results in an overload alarm on the generator.
I'm going to add a SUPPCO hard start cap like on the last trailer we had and see if that helps with cycling. - K3WEExplorer...
- RoyBExplorer IIThis is the front panel of the 2KW COMPANION Honda Generator.
I have never played with this unit before but I do know the 2KW Generator only developes 13.3AMPs and I suspect only the 20A Receptacle is the only one "ACTIVE" unless you have the parallel cables connected to a second 2KW HOnda generator.
Someone should dime in here that has used one to tell us if the 30AMP twist lock receptacle is "ON" if you are running the generator by itself. The only way to develop the 26.6AMPS that is printed on the generator front panel is to have a second 2KW gnererator conneceted and running at the same time.
If the TWIST LOCK receptacle is "HOT" and only develops 13.3AMPS like the regular 120VAC receptacle next it then you could use the appropriate 120V three prong twist lock plug that you can plug the RV 30AMP Shore Power Cable into it.
I was thinking the COMPANION Honda generator had one regular 20AMP 120V receptacle and a standard RV 30A socket you could plug the shore power cable into it.
Maybe the companion has two different models using different 30AMP sockets???? I can't tell from this photo what the 30AMP Connector of the parallel kit looks like. Thinking about it, it is probably the Industry standard 30A twist Lock connector - not the RV standard 30A plug to mate with the RV 30A Shore Power cable...
You should be able to use the 20AMP connector with the RV30A-15A long adapter plug from WALMART using the COMPANION generator by itself if the 30AMP TWIST LOCK socket is not active.
This photo of a EU2000i parallel kit looks like a standard RV30A socket being used... Different manf does different things I guess...

Thanks guys. I understand the limitations with the 2000 genny. We only use the genny once a year or so when camping at the beach and the occasional power failure at home.
My Dad actually has the other 2000w genny so we could couple them if we really wanted the AC. I heard it was better to have at least one of the companion gennys if you planned on using the AC due to its having the 30a plug. I'm guessing something like this is what I need then.
30a adapter
I don't think the one I listed above will work. The picture shows that it has a 4 prong male end but my Honda 2000 companion only has a 3 prong receptacle. Am I missing something?
Look again. It only has 3 prongs. Scroll over the photo and it enlarges it for an easier view. - RoyBExplorer IIHere is what I do with my "SINGLE" 2KW Honda Generator that is secure mounted in the tailgate corner of my truck...
This is the front panel of my EU2000i 2KW Honda Generator.
I use the RV 30A-15A Dogbone type ADAPTER from WALMART and plug this adapter into the standard 120VAC Receptacle on the Generator shown above.. Then I plug my Trailer 30A Shore Power Cable into the 30A adapter end. I will only get a 15A/20A service using this setup so I have to watch what I have on at the same time in my trailer. This is what I do to keep my converter/charger on when re-charging my battery banks in a three hour generator run time when camping off the power grid. I have never had a local heating issue when using the long adapter. Looks similar to this photo...
In my home/garage setup I cannot use the small round black type RV30A-15A adapters shown here by others as they always seem to start getting hot on me after being used for just a small amount of time. I have never plugged these into the generator so don't know if they get hot or not. They certainly do get hot on me when used in conjunction with a 50-foot 10-gauge (10-3) extension cord at my house...
I would not want this to happen to me and damage my 2KW Honda 120VAC Receptacle. Who knows what that would cost to get repaired.
just my thoughts on RV30A-15A adapters
Roy Ken - silvercorvetteExplorerThe the companion is the one with the 30 A plug installed. One the older companions the 30 A plug stuck out but the newer ones have the plugs mounted flush which means less chance of damage from from something hitting or bump into it. You will be pushing the GEN to it limits using one GEN at 30 A you really need to Gens mounted together to deliver 30 A
- deleted-2ExplorerI keep reading about pairing a Honda with a pure sine wave inverter to boost the start capacity for air conditioners and other heavy hitters.
From what I've seen on the internet some say that it is doable.
