In before the lock: The theory that a falling bullet can be lethal was the only theory Mythbusters ever tested that scored-Plausible, Busted, and Confirmed.
The reason it was labeled Confirmed is that an advisor to the show, a professor from Stanford, quoted two accounts where a person had died from the wounds of a falling bullet.
The Mythbuster's falling bullets in larger calibers were embedded 12" deep in the ground.
The physicists are correct, here. If most larger caliber guns have a muzzle velocity of 800-2000 ft.//sec., the falling bullet is down to a tenth or less of that when it hits earth.
