Gravity is an acelerative force of 32.16 ft sec sec. Once gravity takes over a bullet won't be going very fast when it hits the ground again. I am too lazy to compute it right now.
A heavy bullet can cause some damage but not a light one. A pistol bullet such as a 9mm or .40 cal is not going to be over 1200 fps second from the barrel, unless I load them. So the arc won't be too high or as long.
Doesn't matter. The Guys that shot into the air because they were stupid drunk, happened to be Cops and thus the backing or support from the State. Nothing much will happen to them. Now if you did it in NY you would be facing life in front of a firing squad or listening to Bloomberg, probably spelled wrong, expouse on his rules for life and...
