Biggest problem is the crazy carry laws and reciprocal rights taking place. Anyone in the USA can apply for a Utah state carry permit that is valid in 31 other states so more Zimmerman's can go around shooting unarmed teenagers or anyone else they don't like. When people have a gun they are inclined to use them.
As for sheriffs, In California they are the bottom rung of the law enforcement ladder and are guys who could not get accepted by the state highway patrol or a city police department where the pay is much better. They are a small step up from a prison guard.
No one should have to apply for a carry permit. We(our Forefathers) specifically said shall not be infringed, in regards to owning and bearing arms. Zimmerman: they said he was innocent. Evidently you want him guilty. I have to leave it to the Jury. Almost everyone around here and most of America own firearms and a lot of them carry them.
The subject is our right to be able to protect ourselves from Predators whether it is a firearm or rock or baseball bat. Without arms we would all be subject to the rule by Predators. It is insulting to me and every other American that you think we should not have firearms or be able to protect our selves and that because we have firearms we will harm someone. It is that simple. - JJBIRISHExplorerRights are amazing things to have… the trouble with having rights they have amazingly high and equal responsibilities that go with them, or we risk losing them… it's not the other guys responsibility, we each must play our part… rights without responsibility are guaranteed to no one…
How come the arguments never begin with or revolve around sound owner or sound carry responsibilities… - coolbreeze01ExplorerIf we didn't have rights, we wouldn't have much. Amazed at those without a clue.....

Once gravity takes over a bullet won't be going very fast when it hits the ground again. I am too lazy to compute it right now.
A heavy bullet can cause some damage but not a light one. A pistol bullet such as a 9mm or .40 cal is not going to be over 1200 fps second from the barrel, unless I load them. So the arc won't be too high or as long.
Doesn't matter. The Guys that shot into the air because they were stupid drunk, happened to be Cops and thus the backing or support from the State. Nothing much will happen to them. Now if you did it in NY you would be facing life in front of a firing squad or listening to Bloomberg, probably spelled wrong, expouse on his rules for life and... - AO_hitechExplorerIt does have to move fast enough to "move through"... ;)
- JJBIRISHExplorerWhen you are killed by a randomly fired bullet into the air… do you really think it matters at the time the muzzle velocity when fired, the angle of the dangle, or the physics behind the bullets decent… as it pierces your skull…
Don’t say it can’t happen there is enough evidence of it happening… explain it any way you will...
The thing is to many people own guns that shouldn’t many have the required safety training and gun handling experience… but don’t know how to control anger, can’t handle their liquor or have the commonsense of a bed bug…
There are a lot of them out there… this is a story about just two of them, and no we are not safer because of all of these gun totting mental nitwits…
Those taking charge of making the arguments on either side of the issue have about the same mentality and lack of commonsense…
Like is a slower moving bullet passing through your skull safer that a faster moving bullet passing through your skull… - AO_hitechExplorerAnd remember, this was all in dispute of the post claiming that a bullet "shot in the air" will retain 75% of its muzzle velocity. It certainly does not.
Firing a gun "in the air" is dangerous because it is not fired straight up. If the angle is low enough (and it doesn't have to be all that low) the bullet will retain enough velocity on the downward arc to be dangerous.
And I do stand corrected. Mythbusters did fire a bullet straight up, from a vice. But, it did not come straight down. Every little breeze pushed the bullet away from a straight downward path. - BurbManExplorer IIThese knuckleheads are playing Dirty Harry over the volume of the music and meanwhile real crimes go unsolved....

Here's a new busted myth for you then. At a New Year's Eve celebration in our town a few years ago a man did just that - fired a gun into the air. The bullet came down onto and into a little girl's head - she died.
Well, either that did not happen, or that is the story the boyfriend told. First, it is almost impossible to fire straight up. The bullet is always at a slight angle (Mythbusters couldn't get a bullet to fall straight back down). A bullet can be fired into the air and have enough velocity when it returns to cause damage, if it has a low enough arc when it is fired. How low that is I'm not sure, but everyone you can see is safe. Terminal velocity of any bullet just isn't that fast.
well.... that is not entirely true. Mythbusters couldnt get the bullet to fire straight up, but that being said. they did not conduct the experiment in a vaccum, where terminal velocity experiments are generally conducted. That being said... a lot goes into building an accurate bullet.
Mass does have a play in terminal velocity but not because of its weight, but its drag. terminal vel is 32ft/sec/sec
