Cover TT during outside storage?

We have a new KZ 301BH travel trailer and we are thinking we should get a good cover for it. I have heard mixed reactions to covers. What do you with experience think and what brand can you recommend? We live in northern Illinois and the weather can get pretty extreme in the winter and summer. Thanks
  • Had a pop-up for 17 years. Always stored inside. The roof vent and subsequent sealant, when I sold it, looked as good as they day I brought it home in 1995.

Killing me keep my newer 2012 TT outside. :-/
  • Thanks for your input everyone. I am going to take a look at what the dealer has tomorrow, I think we should go with a cover.
  • I would do what you can to keep the sun off the trailer. People state that they are "meant" to be in the sun but that just means the manufacturer does their best to minimize sun damage. But make no mistake about it - the sun is terribly damaging. I had a trailer under a roof but the back was open so sun got on the very back of it. The difference between the back of the trailer and the rest of it was astounding, even though I kept it cleaned and polished with UV protectant. Everything exposed to the sun was fading and parts were getting brittle. The best thing is to put a shelter over it. It does not have to be fancy - just have the opening face north if you can and put the walls down the close to the group.

You would hope that the units are not on the lot long enough to hurt them.
I never covered my 2004, and when before were traded it. Every thing on top was brittle from baking in the sun. but then, maybe the sun / heat is not as bad in Vermont as it is in NC.

  • IF possible, go a step farther, and put a roof over it. I did, and it really helped mine. No more cooking of the plastic vents, and rubber fridge tops. Also keeps hail from touching it.
  • Search this Forum for `RV Cover' for the pros and cons.
  • You'll hear arguments for covering as well as not covering. I've been covering mine for 3 years and the rig looks brand new. I've been using the same cover and it is holding up well. If you cover, it has to breathe. Don't use the blue tarp.
