Doesn't that mean that you don't have a clear title to it anymore which would also make it unable to register it for plates?

It depends on your Location. My Motorhome was totaled. Tennessee does not require that the Title be surrendered after one is totaled.

Re yesterday's storm, I got lucky - it passed by moving from the NW to the SE just north of my location. I did take refuge under a church entrance "canopy" but did not need to in the end. However, next time may not turn out so well.

My truck was "totaled" but not declared a salvage vehicle. I did a "buy-back" and kept ownership of the truck. I had no problem renewing my registration.

Re the TC, it was also totaled and apparently declared salvage since I could not renew my annual registration, I did a "buy-back" on it too and still live there. I hope to get it inspected later this year and declared road-worthy so I can get it registered.

Unbob, you need to change insurance companys. When we lost our trailer in a blowover & did $10,000 worth of damage to the truck the insurance company not only expedited our claim there was no problem renewing. In a few years we are now back to a full no claims discount.

Since that incident we are very wary of the wind. The rough plan is, if there is enough time, head north out of the way or south out of the way. The storms generally track in SW to NE direction. If you are on the tracks & a train is coming, step aside one way or another.

If you are setup in a CG, & the storm is barreling at you, well, what can you do? Grab your important documents & find best shelter.

Hurricanes don't scare me. Been through more than a few of them. Big thunderstorms & those whirly things do scare me. Only had a few close calls with a couple medium sized thunderstorms, no twisters. The ham radio was put to use to avoid them both times.

You are stressing and worrying over something that may or may not happen and if it does you can't do nothing about it except look for cover at that time. We get warnings all the time and in fact they say Sunday in Texas looks to be fun... But it may not happen and if it does it may not happen right here. That's why we have insurance. If you are caught out in it and it does happen look for any overpass or gas station etc, that's about all you can do. Until then quit worrying and keep on truckin.....

My experience has been that if there is a possibility of a tornado in the area, the local TV channels will warn, but they're talking to people that live in the area, not travelers unfamiliar with the area. Both times that its happened to me, I've been in KOAs. Once in "Tornado Alley" and once in southern Georgia. And both times, the owners went door to door, telling everybody.
At the one in southern Georgia, they invited everyone into the recreation room to watch TV coverage, and told us that both attached restrooms were also built as tornado shelters, including emergency generators. The owners unlocked the pop machine for us, and we all sat around telling storm stories until the all clear siren sounded. I met some nice folks and got some good CG references for where I was headed. The tornado missed us, but the next day there was damage visible from the road about 30 miles away. At least what I could see wasn't in populated areas.

I understand what happenend before. Chances are nothing will happen. I live in Ks where severe weather is the norm in the spring. I would suggest covered RV storage yard.
