Covering a 5th Wheel for the Winter

Our 5th wheel is 12 years old. It spent 2 years in the hot Florida sun, 5 years in the northern Michigan cold & snow, and another 5 years in lower Michigan (also with cold, snow, & rain). All 12 years without a cover. I wash the camper regularly, wax the nose & tail because they have the gel coat, and also clean the roof twice a season. My 5th wheel looks nearly as good as it was new. I personally think that RV covers make a lot of money for the manufacturers of RV covers. They don't hold up to the weather much and seem like a waste of money. You'd be better off finding an enclosed storage facility for your RV as your costs would be similar over a 5-6 year period. And be sure to hope & pray your covered RV doesn't have to experience a hail storm because it will be shredded.

I'll be putting my Adco Tyvek on for the 6th season. Been very happy with it. Shows a little wear, but still functional. My location is very low wind, and that helps a lot, imo.

ADCO ..best covers out there we have been using ours for years with no tears or rips ( were in S.W.Ont so the winds and snow are intense )

Use bubble wrap or pool noodles on sharp corners

Best thing you can do for your 5er

I cover more in the summer to protect from the sun's UV rays. I buy the cheapest cover(Classic cover usually under $180) and get about 27-30 months out of it before it began to fall apart. I have purchased more expensive covers before but in the hot California sun it didn't last any longer. Our fifth wheel(2003) still looks really good with all its decals. I would never buy a cover that costs $1300!!

We had an ADCO for a couple of years. No matter how I padded, every corner wore through and started to tear.

I finally spent $1600 for a metal roof cover, 18 ft. wide X 33 ft. long.
