Dicor products compatabilty HELP

I need some input - seems like I am opening a can of worms here
We recently purchased a used 2007 Cardinal 37' fifth wheel that we are going to full time in for a few years to take a break from the brick and mortar home. The fifth came from a dealer repo auction in New Mexico. The roof had been previously been recoated. The roof (rubber under) appears to be in good shape - a few dings and bruises, the coating isn't too bad but its sun weathered - and cracking. I would ASSUME it was coated with Acrylic EPDM it is bonded well and not coming up. Can I used Dicor over this with out knowing what the previous coating is????? We will be in Florida for 2 years and its easier to seal it now while in WI than down in FL. I called Dicor and to play it safe they give you the non committed answer.

Coverage question too - 37' WITH 4 SLIDES - From what I have read 2 galls goes pretty far - is it enough to coat everything 2 times or go with 3 galls.

Thanks in advance - Todd

  • It's really hard to make a recommendation without knowing what exactly is on there now.
  • tempfultimer,
Well, I know you said yours was previously coated with something that you're not sure of but, here's a couple of thoughts. You can recoat it using Dicors product. I used it and it's a great product. There's some serious work in prep that needs to be done but, the good part is, it's all done in one day, as long as it's a warm day.

Now, here's the second thought. I don't know how much you value your coach and, how much you would or, would not like to spend on it, but, there are a few places around that "Spray" a urethane coating on roofs now and it's fantastic. It's very similar to the coating sprayed in truck beds. They prep the roof, remove the big items, tape things off, repair anything that may need repair, (roof wood, luan etc.) and then, spay it on. It's all one piece then and is sealed from tip to tip and side to side.

I've seen it done on many coaches in the San Diego area. Just something to think about. Good luck.

I was leaning towards re coating the roof. Is weathered from the sun and general lack of care from the prior owner.
I would not recommend a lap sealant to re-coat the entire roof. For a quick intro to the dicor products watch this video.

  • Are you talking about sealant for over seams, around vents etc.

    OR

    A full coating of roof??????
  • That's pretty much what I had thought - since this is more an aesthetics / cosmetic job not a leak repair. I would find it hard to believe it wouldn't bond
  • Dicor lap-sealant would be fine. Use self-leveling for the roof.
