diesel price in Or between truck stops and service stations

As many times that I've been thru Oregon,I've never figgered out the difference in prices between truck stops and service stations. I know that there is a difference if you pay for a PUC,but what about the average Joe with a diesel p/u or a MH?
One time I was in Ontario and stopped at the truck stop just off the freeway with my PSD Excursion and trailer and was told that I could get fuel down the street at theShell station and it was easier to get in and out of than the front end of the truckstop. The truck lanes were very backed up. Headed down the street, pulled into the the Shell and wow, the price was $.20 less a gallon there.
I also love the fact that the truck stops advertise the price w/o the PUC permit and when you pull in it's different.

OK, I'll bite. What is a PUC ?

And it looks like Oregon allows stations to post fuel prices that EXCLUDE taxes ? Is that correct ?
No they don't post gas prices just Diesel prices without taxes. PUC is what large trucking operations can get to exclude them from paying tax on diesel fuel. Only diesel fuel. So if you own your own 18 wheeler you can get a tax exempt card for diesel. Not gas. Very confusing for sure. I have been suckerd in more than once. Just have to be on your toes.
  • Get the Gasbuddy app for your smart phone and you can plan your fuel stops to lessen gouging.

  • It looks as if the current price,at Pilot/flying J's in Oregon on I-5,is 3.59 plus .30 tax or 3.89 a gallon and the price at Tumwater,Wa is 3.79. I think I'll get fuel in Oregon at Eugene on the way down and then hit the one in Wa on the way home.
We're headed for Florence and it's 700 r/t. So if I top off at Tumwater on the way down,65 miles,I should be able to do the whole trip on 1 tank and fill it there when I come home. That's figgering a 100 gallon tank at 7.5. I applied for a Good Sam fuel card and that's .08 a gallon discount and the .10 difference makes it .18 a gallon difference,so on about 90 gallons or about $16 off of a bill of around $360.
I drive a school bus part-time to pay for my trips and that'll be about 40 hours for fuel and campsite.Who cares tho, anything to do a road trip.
  • Yeah I have lived here for 14 years I still don't get it. Some of those stations post the PUC with credit or cash when you pull in they tell you Oh you can just pay credit and get the same price as cash. Very confusing to say the least.
