I actually had thought about this for a trip to the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum at Dulles airport outside DC sometime this fall. I'd thought about either the museum lot, or the outermost lot at Dulles.
Two things kept me from doing it. First, I found out that there's a reasonable CG nearby. Second, I doubt I could get reliable advance permission over the phone, even if I could reach a person at the level to give such. But I did get as far as looking on Google Earth at the layout of lots there.
Yes, I've thought of it before, and it is a potentially fine idea. I'd suggest having foam earplugs just in case there's all-night flight ops within hearing. Google Earth's Street View is a good way to check in advance for height barriers at lot entrances, or other obstacles.
