I think there are two different types of diesel issues here. A modern diesel truck can start and go, but an aired down modern diesel motor home can't. My motor home engine will fire right up and I can drive away immediately.....IF my air bags are inflated. If they're not inflated, it can take 5 or more minutes for them to get to the point where the coach can be moved.
Just this morning we broke camp where I let the engine idle while I did other prep like disconnecting the hoses. As soon as my wife here's the air tank "spit", she shuts the engine off, I finish up and away we go.
Soooooo......not all idling diesels are jerks. If you're looking for campground jerks, they come in tents, trailers, motor homes and fifth wheels because everyone can be inconsiderate, not just diesel owners.
