Per my other post, I think the "pivot" referred to in the letter was a side-to-side pivot and not a vertical pivot.

When they are referring to "pivot" are they referring to side to side pivoting and not the pivoting up and down to allow the trailer to move vertically independently of the 5th wheel? Nice to see that they refer to it as a load length accessory. They made no reference to anything about it being permanently attached. Good news.

Nice to see the swivel wheel trailers referred to as something other than a simple trailer.

New to the forum, but felt I needed to reply to this topic. In 2012 I was cited for double towing in Oregon, swivel wheel behind my 30 foot fifth wheel. When I returned home I attempted to get clarification on whether the swivel wheel is a trailer or an extension of the fifth wheel. I contacted the Manager of the Oregon State Motor Carrier Field Services to explain to that the swivel wheel platform was not a trailer because it is permanently attached to the fifth wheel trailer. It is bolted at two points to the fifth wheel frame, pictures were sent to him. He and the manager the Over-Dimension Permit Program got together and looked at the information I submitted and the manufacturers' website. The following was their reply:

This means that any vehicle that the Cruiserlift or similar devices are attached to is still subject to vehicle length limits. In Oregon that means a recreational vehicle may only be 45 feet long inclusive of the accessory deck added on.

I submitted their findings to the court and the ticket was voided. I will be returning to Oregon this summer.

Cummins12v, page 16 has the bad news. Dont know how old the publication is though. Pretty much why i avoided Oregon and Washington. I no longer pull doubles myself but did for several years.

Well, nobody will convince anyone else until, or even if, the LEO's have their say. Which, hopefully, will never happen.

However, I have done it, anyone who has not done is simply conjecturing. I say go for it and let the devil take the hindmost. "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" after all. :)

Hey Dee, just ignore fj12ryder, he is trolling you. You could weld the tote to the frame and he would still find something to make it illegal. He could NOT bother to see you are a resident of OR and are in compliance with your home state laws.

Very true, for NON residents of CA. There are 2 different laws in CA when it comes to towing doubles.
