Drones illegal

Oh man, "Hoovering" drones, that just sucks. lol

There is a BIG BIG difference between RC Hobby enthusiasts and a bunch of idiots now able to buy cheap drones with cameras on them.

Just last week a drone with a camera was hoovering peering into a bathroom window at some ones house while the wife was showering. They called police and police said they couldn't do anything. :R

Another one was hoovering over the back yard of someones house and the owner shot it down.....HE is the one in jail. :R

They better come up with some real strict laws about these drones real quick or it's going to be a real mess.

For now if one comes anywhere near my property it's coming out of the sky one way or another. :B

Drones have created problems in fighting wildfires as droners try to get good video of the fires and impede firefighting aircraft. Ownership of the device does not guarantee brains or judgment. And, yes, I would happily shoot one down if it harassed me.

If the FAA requires a 400' ceiling I could see drones need to self limit altitude with license and insurance required to go over. Can't imagine why over 200' would be needed. Just don't fly over the edge of a cliff....

Actually they have a drone with a net they can use to intercept.

So I must have missed something. What was the terrible tragedy that happened that we now need to ban drones? Or is it just a bunch of know it all busybodys?

I have mixed feelings on them and agree there needs to be some area and altitude restrictions, possibly software enforced. However as far as restricting purchase and registering them for security reasons I don't know. If you want to bring down an airplane you open up on it with a bunch of AR15's or other widely available weapons, and any 6 toed, four eyed banjo pickin numpty can buy a dozen of them and 10,000 rounds of ammunition with no questions asked.

Also it was mentioned in a previous comment as you do not own the air over private property and shooting down a drone is a federal crime in the US, it is equal to shooting down a 747, regardless the reason, there is no distinction in the laws.

The most important thing we need is education, not just for those who use them, but also for those who think a quick ban will solve all the worlds problems.

Since you singled me out I will elaborate my comments. Drones have a lot of very useful jobs and I'm not against there responsible use. IF someone use's one in a way that's a nuisance I would have a word with the owner. If that failed and they persisted I would take action.

If you don't think there is restricted airspace try flying your drone over the Witehouse.

I do not want drones banned there are way to many use's for them even in National parks say looking for lost people. They can inspect bridges and power lines in a safe and effective manor. Several jobs they can do very effectively. But you will always have people that misuse them as well.

Sounds silly today, but that day is coming. Sooner or later someone will make the argument that there's some species of insect or whatever that's being affected by people in the woods, and they'll successfully lobby to ban people from forests, parks, rivers, lakes, etc.
