Dual Cam Setup

I'm working on setting up a new Reese Dual Cam setup. I think I need a 1" extended ball, and wonder if I would benefit from a 2".

Here's are some photos of where I'm at now:

Side view, I think snap-up can go back a little without having to move the gas mount.

It looks like the cam clears with 6 links, 5 wasn't as good:

Trunion and head bind (less that 45 degrees) (Any reason to NOT center the roll pin? It seems line both are sticking out on one side and are in 1/4" or so on the other.):

Bind on the other side (closer to 90 degrees).

  • I would got with the 1" rise on the ball. The one pix at "almost 90 degrees" it appears as though the trunion bar was not properly engaged in the hitch head.

Check with Reese about a recall on hitch heads

Yea once I'm close I figure I'll dial in the everything on flat ground connected to the tow vehicle. I'm pretty sure I can put the snap bracket wherever I want since the gas mount is just screwed in.

Yes and the DC problems thread. That's how I knew to play around with clearances with the floor jack.

What about the 1" or 2" raised ball, should I consider that?
  • It is close IMO with just a quick look. It looks very similar to my final install. The top coupler designs do not give you quite the clearance as the lower couplers do. I trust you did visit the sticky on WD hitch set up on this forum. It is one of the best there is on the Dual cam set up. Also recheck all of your cam arm bracket measurements before you drill those holes and apply the correct torque to the self threading bolts and ball. A new high quality bit or two and a 1/2" drill motor will make the drilling quicker. Good work so far!
  • It appears to me that you do not have the angle of the head set correctly. Reread the direction to get the correct angle and the clearance issue should go away.
  • Just to keep things interesting, I also have 2 heads. One seems to have a little more rise, but it's all cast while the other is a welded one that seems as little beefier:
