Duct tape is the type. Duck tape is the brand.

Note the note:
Note: To be legally called “Duct Tape” the tape must meet or exceed certain heat requirements.
Some Duck® brand Tapes do meet this classification and will tell you so on their label.
What makes good duct tape
Again, Duck is a brand of tape; Duct is a type of tape. Duck tape may be duct tape (will state on the label) and duct tape may be Duck tape brand. They are not two separate types of tape in and of the name alone. - DrewEExplorer II

Actual duct tape, as is useful for ductwork, is quite different; it's generally more like aluminum foil with a sticky adhesive (and a strip of paper that must be peeled from the adhesive). It's also very handy and useful stuff for a multitude of tasks, as the foil is completely waterproof (though the adhesive may not be) and can be somewhat shaped as its applied.
I believe I read somewhere that this kind of duck tape originated during World War II, and was called duck tape because it shed water fairly well. - toedtoesExplorer III

Hmmm. I think there is some subliminal messaging in that tape. RV and pink flamingos...
A little OT, but IMHO with a little bit of paint, turn those pink plastic lawn flamingo's into vultures! :B
Nice. But you can't do that to the pink flamingos on the tape. - toedtoesExplorer III
