E-Z Lube Axles

Well, don't I feel stupid. I just paid $292 to have both axels done. I hope they at least hand packed them. :)

You need to look closer... the grease comes out between the back bearing and the grease seal. Grease must travel thru the back bearing, fill up the hub center and then go thru the front bearing to lubricate it... all without blowing the grease seal. Personal experience... seal failure and lubing the brakes makes me a forever hand pack guy. :)

The space between the bearings is the area that has to be filled with grease. It doesn't come from the factory that way. Why it doesn't I don't know. I just know that mine didn't and I've never heard of one that did.

OK, I get it, the bearings are basically hand packed from the factory and the first time you lube them with a grease gun, you need to fill everything up. Correct?

This is another one of those topics that is useless. Trying to convince people that EZ lubes can be used instead of hand packing.

It's on the equivalent of trying to convince others that there are other ST tires out there that are reliable that work as well as the"Mx" brand.

Hand packing when you don't want to -or don't have the facilities for repacking yourself is a major expense. Most reputable places charge at least $100.00/axle.

X2 Another long time member here.

Never heard of a bearing failure with EZ Lube either.

I wonder how many of the EZ-Lube axles that have problems are bad from the very start? As in mislubed at the dealership, fabricator, or builder themselves.

I have EZ lubes. Used them correctly for two years.Third year I did a complete break job,seals blew, grease everywhere. I'll do them by hand from now on. To those who have had good luck with them Good Luck but watch them.

You can "freshen up" the grease by adding more via the grease zerks. That's how it's designed to work. It isn't necessary to replace all the grease in the hubs. I used to work on machinery with roller bearings that ran 24/7. The only time we replaced the grease in those bearings was when the equipment was overhauled: every 3-5 years. In between overhauls we added grease via the grease zerks, and a very little bit at a time. You're not going to "wear out" the grease in those hubs.
