As some of the others have stated check the battery. What you're experiencing is classic battery problem. It's possible it's the converter but mostly likely not. Seen far too many converters replaced needlessly when it was just a battery problem.
First check the fluid level. Low water level in the battery will cause exactly as you describe. If the fluid level has been allowed to go too long it's likely the battery could be going bad and will need replaced.
When trouble shooting problems the rule is go from least expensive first. Check the water level in the battery.
