Equalizer bars

It looks identical because they used the same design, just scaled up for the heavier bars.

The bars are thicker.

Several years ago we had to do just what you are facing when I went from the 600/6000 Equal-i-zer hitch to a 1000/10000 Equal-i-zer hitch. Had to purchase a whole new hitch.

If I were just starting out today, I would go with the Blue Ox SwayPro Hitch. Their one hitch head is the same for all weights. All you have to do is change the bars to change hitch capacities.

If you have an Equal-i-zer brand hitch you will need to purchase a whole new hitch as the hitch heads are different for the different weight bars.

If you are using the term "equalizer" for a generic weight distributing hitch, then in most cases the bars are interchangeable and you would only have to purchase new bars.
