Extended warranty

WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!!
If you have a extended warranty contract with auto warranty agency, beware they have written the contracts in such a way that no claim will be honored. They will manipulate a claim in any way possible to avoid paying the claim, These people are totally unethical, so if you feel that you need an extended warranty go someplace else, better yet take your money to the middle of a street and throw it up in the air and walk away.

  • Sucker bets. Like the insurance line on a black jack table.
  • When I say they try anything to avoid paying I mean just that.

The first claim I had was the engine had no oil pressure, The dealer said it was the main bearings, a Cummins with 123,000 miles. They denied paying because they said the injectors were leaking, I don't think so because:
    1.It never smoked.
    2. The oil level never went up between oil changes.
    3. The truck pulled just fine, no misses or hesitation.
So that was $16,000 out of pocket.

This time the A/C quit working dealer said bad compressor, denied again because the seal on the compressor was bad and seals are not covered.
At least this time it was only $350.00 out of pocket.

In my opinion this company is nothing more than a crook with a web site and a group of agencies.

Beware of: The TechChoice vehicle Service Contracts, sold through The Auto Warranty Agency in Maryland.
  • Not all extended service plans are the same. I paid $5000 for the one I currently have and have now broken even on the claims end of it. It doesn't take much in (repairs) with a diesel pusher to exceed $5000. I still have almost 4 years to go on my extended service plan and they haven't denied anything that has needed to be repaired. Anything that needs repaired in the next 4 years will be at the plans expense.
  • Have a talk with your states commissioner of Insurance and see if there is anything they can do. If it's truly written to allow them to dishonor all claims you can BET they're in violation of a law prohibiting it since in order to HAVE a contract both sides must receive value. If your state does not HAVE an insurance commissioner then talk to the consumer protection division of the Attorney Generals office for advice. It's my own opinion that MOST of these insurance policies are worth little at all unless you're lucky enough to purchase a REAL Lemon (since that is what the rates are based on) and even reputable insurance companies seldom loose money on a policy.
    Good luck / Skip
  • Extended warranties are a total waste of money unless you have an older unit. The warranty provider needs customers with new RVs to sign up to pay for the older units.
Extended warranties are not warranties they are insurance policies.
  • Can't tell you how many times I read about this kind of thing with extended warranties.
For you folks that remember records...this post reminds me of a.....

    Anyway, good luck with it.
  • You paint with a very broad brush. To date, the policy I have from Wholesalewarranties.com has been trouble free. I did have one claim rejected, but I knew in advance that is was not covered, but submitted anyway just in case I missed something. The claims I felt should be covered were always covered without a problem. That said, when I purchased my car I was talked into the paint/interior protection plan by the dealer. When I tried to make a claim getting coverage was next to impossible, so I gave up. It would have required taking the car to a detail shop first at my expense to see if it could be cleaned off, then going to one of the "recommended" shops to file the claim, none even close to being local. The dealer was no help, they just sell the product, and of course, they no longer sell "that brand" product. So I understand your frustration, but some warranties seem ok. Depends on the company. • Every time I get the urge to throw money up in the air, my wife beats me to it. Good luck with your extended warranty Dave......
