Eye Test

What does it indicate when you can't see the numbers on the chart but you can when you look through the disk with pinholes in it just fine?

cataract surgery makes retinal detachment more likely. I had cat surgery on both eyes and no longer needed glasses. A year and a half later my left eye got blurry. I delayed going to doc. It was a retinal detachment, had that surgery and because of delay I have some permanent vision loss. 6 months later the other retina went. Because of quickly addressing it that eye is now back to 20/30 with glasses.
The pinhole occluder eliminates spurious light and forces you to focus with one part of the eye. It is a basic screening tool. To get a better idea of how it's used simply Google "pinhole glasses" or "pinhole occluder" you'll find plenty of information, but the big thing is to address it quickly.
    Good luck, Russ

X2 Had cataract surgery on both eyes and 3 retina surgeries since then. Was serious enough to have same day surgery all 3 times. I still see better thru the pinholes.

  • I saw my Dr that did the cataract surgery and all was well.
At VA they did the screening, and sad it was abnormal. Di the eye exam and left eye is messed up no retinal bleeds within vision field. However I couldn't see didly with the left eye.
Said it was the same as 2015 before I had cataract surgery 20/40.
I saw the numbers and letters fine looking through the pinhole disc.
Since I was ten or twelve I've had bad eye sight around 2400/20 until cataract surgery. Was expecting 20/20. so.........
  • That you need to see an eye doctor. Basic safety for you, your family....and me!
  • In general that test is to check whether new glasses or surgery can help. If your vision improves through the pinholes , a new Rx may help. Cataracts, Glaucoma or retinal problems can change that generality.
5 eye surgeries in the last 4 years so I understand your nervousness.
