fireworks sales in tents ..

Depends on the area, I'm sure. Around here, my impression is it's local folks who open a store for a few weeks.

Probably should stop by one of them tents and have a chat with the folks working there.

Locally, some thing like 90% of the firework places are local charities fund-raisers all staffed by local members of said organization.
The others are family operations.

I was hoping to see someone who has done this reply. A WalMart I drive by everyday going to work had a tent set up for a couple of weeks with a MH sitting nearby. I assume the folks in the MH were running the sale as when I went by early mornings, the MH was parked blocking the entrance to tent. Never had the chance to stop when they weren't really busy, so I could chat about how they worked their tent. This morning the tent was empty and the MH gone, just waiting on tent company to come take down.

Not to rain on your parade....( get it, 4th parade).... but.....isnt this a bit ,um Short Season.....???????

that is not the point of the first question in posed.. I know you only work for, and it more than 5 days more like 14 days, the time the tent is up and make money.

there was a post on workkamper.com site about the fireworks tents but not many people have done it.. Kinda like selling Christmas trees you work for a set number of day on Christmas tree lot and make a certain percentage of the profit.. i have heard of RV people making 2-3 thousand dollars for a month work, plus get a place to stay as well.

that is not bad.. was wanting to know about the fireworks deal if anyone knew but apparently no one knows for sure.

I had an employee who took his two week vacation to run a fireworks stand in Texas a few years back. He was convinced it was going to be a money making gold mine. He won't be doing it again. He figured he made about $6.00 an hour since he had to open at the crack of dawn and didn't close until nearly midnight. Of course there was no air conditioning, so it was hotter than Hades, and a good portion of his profits went to ice, soda and water. His deal was he bought the fireworks from the stand owner, sold what he could and then the owner bought back the remaining inventory. The fine print later revealed that buyback amount was "true" wholesale which was less than what his cost was for the fireworks he sold. His total net(after covering space rent, inventory, stand rent, additional labor, the aforementioned water and ice, electricity etc.) was somewhere around $1000 and he put in a good 160 plus hours in the Texas heat. Good thing was he sure appreciated his job when he got off "vacation".

there the kind of info i was looking for.. I sorta figured there was a gotcha somewhere in the deal.. but have often wondered who or how you see so many of them pop up around town.

i bet its one of them deal where you get burned the first time and there is no second time if you are smart. at least with christmas trees it not so dam hot.. even in texas..

someone is always trying to take advantage of people it seems.. I till put that off my list of jobs when i get to full-timing RV in the future..

In spite of my employee's experience, I really don't see it as ripping people off. The stand owner deserves to make a profit too. He did front the inventory, so he should make a profit off of it. He does own, maintain, move and store the stands and he should make a profit from that. The landowner where the stand sits does deserve some rent. My guy is a great guy, but he is not an extremely outgoing personality, and I suspected from the start that an emotion based retail sale position was not going to be his forte. There is probably also a need to be a little-bit cutthroat to sell fireworks or Christmas Trees. Can't be soft hearted and give a kid a deal. Can't be judgemental and try and talk someone out of buying fireworks you know they are going to be using illegally. If someone is buying a rocket you know is not that great, you have to sell it.

I guess you will get a big bang out of a job like that....
