That's wonderful to offer folks a place to go but I have to agree that 60 miles isn't very far inland from a big hurricane...I'd go 600 miles inland but that's just me!
I lived near Charlotte when Hugo went through, even that wasn't far enough...took out 12 trees in our yard and the power was out for 2 weeks. We had hurricane force winds that literally shut the whole region down for weeks!
We have acreage near the Wyoming/South Dakota border and not in tornado alley...a great hideaway during hurricanes! If anyone is willing to tackle our rough dirt road...
Everyone just needs to plan ahead and get as far away as possible to avoid being in danger or in the way of rescue workers.
