- hersheyExplorerI'm sure that the dump station has been abused at the Flying Js from time to time. But I have never seen any abuse first hand.
Pilots acquisition of the Flying J's caused a lot of change to what we were used to at the J's.
WHen you stop to think about it, Flying J sold out to Pilot because they were either not making any money or losing money. Pilot made some changes to make the operation profitable.
One of the things that adds a tiny trickle of money into the register is the now charge for the dump station. Selling a slightly smaller doughnut for the same money adds a bit more. Changing out the windshield wash water twice a day instead of 4 times a day...ya, get where i'm going? Its just doing business and showing a profit in todays economy. Makeing sure that every dime counts.
Management has to really get creative today to show a profit...years ago, Willie Lump Lump could manage and get by. - bukhrnNomad

Few years back, before we closed all our dump stations, we had a situation where the parents of a couple of three year olds thought it was a good idea to let them use the dump station as a playground. The station had one of those hinged covers over the pipe. The parents had placed a large rock on the foot part of the hinge, locking the cover in the open position. The kids were using smaller rocks as basketballs, having great fun tossing and sliding the rocks into the hole. They were crawling all over the concrete drain pad. I went and sent the kids home and went to have a talk with the parents. As I walked up to the rig, the mother was handing the kids sandwiches. I was 10 seconds behind the kids, so there was no way for them to have washed up after crawling all over the dump station. That made me realize there was no reason to have a discussion with the parents over either the sanity of playing in a sewer, or the damage rocks in the system might cause. There are many ways, Dump steel bolts down the hole for example (Why some rest areas in GA no longer let you dump) Stuff a dead (or live for that matter) Cat in, Dump gravel in the hole, Sticks, and other debris never intended to go into that hole in the ground.
Fact: Last winter the sewer line in the "A" bathhouse in the campground I spend most of my winter at became clogged.
They roto-routered it and pulled out quite a bit of gravel.
The manager figured kids had dumped gravel down the toilets (I disagreed, that is way too much work for a vandal)
(Turns out I was right, but that's a story for another thread, if ever).
But that was the manager's first thought.. - wa8yxmExplorer III

If you see this take down the license plates and hand info to operators so that they might be able to do something to recoup fees for clen up.

When you fill the pipe with fish heads and it clogs. I kid you not!
I believe ya!
Didn't think a thing like that was even possible but heck, people will do some stupid things.
What's wrong with people? Sheesh!
WoodGlue - past-MIdirectorExplorerI know of several Flying J that the dump stations were shut down because of non-toilet items were dropped down and had to be cleaned. One even had to be dug up to access the blockage. Someone has to pay for these kinds of repairs!! This has also happened at Fair grounds and some camp grounds. Items found blocking the lines at Fair and camp grounds include rocks, pieces of wood, beer/pop cans and bottles, diapers, small bags of garbage, and RV sewer drain pipes!
