For those of you with Propride P3 hitches...

On my Propride P3 hitch, I have the adjustable tilt pin at the bottom to prevent the stinger from tilting down. That leaves about a 1/4" gap at the top. Is there any reason I couldn't put a steel wedge in there to prevent the stinger from tilting in either direction? I have the bolts torqued down pretty tight but I still get some tilt up after I've hitched up and unhitched a few times.

  • Lspangler, That's how my setup used to be when I had a F150 but I now have a new Silverado 2500HD and the truck sits much higher. I had to flip the stinger the opposite way to be able to hook up so the pin is now at the bottom. It wouldn't fit in the top like before and trust me, I tried!!! I'll just add another bolt and call it a day.
  • Once torqued mine has never come loose. The rivet goes in the top, then use your floor jack to lift up on the stinger so it is forced against the rivet and tighten all the bolts.

Using this procedure mine has stayed tight.

Sean replied to my email much faster than I anticipated! Great Customer support! Here's what he had to say when asked about putting in a steel wedge ...."You could do that or, if you don't need the tilt feature, you can put the top bolt in the hole rather than the slot, or put a 4th 5/8" bolt through the hole".

Great service and on a Sunday!
Thanks RobWNY for posting Sean (Propride) reply.
  • Yes AH64ID the bolts are properly torqued. They tend to get a little loose and cause the tilting after a few times the stinger is used. I will be fixing the issue with Sean's suggestions.
  • Grade 8 5/8 bolts need over 200 ft/lbs, are you getting that tight?

  • I sent Sean an email asking about the wedge. I didn't want to bother him by calling for something that wasn't in need of an immediate answer. I just thought someone here may have encountered the same issue and would have some insight. I will post what he said for those that might like to know.
  • I don't see why not.
You can always call Sean @propride his cell # is in the instructions and on line.
He's available on weekends for such questions.
If you do call please please tell us what he said.
