I think that's my best bet, CC. I think I'll buy a case or two of
ATF and just keep checking it on the way home and hope for the best.

Really, they say,, there is a difference between ATF and power steering fluid. I've never seen much of a difference myself. What does Freightliner recommend? Maybe your pump is so special it requires a special fluid? I really, really, doubt that. Just giving you a head up.
On then farm where I work we have had to learn to keep a bunch of different types of oils, and fluids, around because they keep coming out with new ones all the time. A lot of these modern computer controlled vehicles will be screwed up quickly if you add the wrong type of oil.
