Fuse bypass switch Chevy Equinox

Having just setup our new toad for towing, I'm for the first time in history faced with pulling a fuse to tow. Somewhere I read that it is not possible to use the fuse bypass switch conversion on the Chevy Equinox. I cannot see any reason that it shouldn't work or what would prevent it from working. Has anyone done this conversion on specifically the Chevy Equinox? Or had it fail to work on a diffent toad?

  • I did the same procedure that Dennis did...just a different switch. Mine was a rocker switch with an LED on it. I wired it so that when the fuse was part of the circuit, the LED would light. When I flipped the switch to remove the fuse, the LED would go off. So it is really simple to know which position I'm currently in.

  • Thanks to the both of you. As Dennis described and I'm sure its the same process more or less that Ron eluded to is exactly what I want to do.
  • We have a 2014 Equinox and I made my own. It's worked fine over the past 6 months. I opened up a fuse and removed the two pins. Bought a switch from an auto parts store along with a fuse holder. Soldered the wires to the pins and plugged it in. Inserted the removed fuse into the fuse holder and put everything back together. Now all I have to do is flip the switch and I'm ready to tow....the switch turns off the electrical so you don't run down the battery. It also turns off the radio, nav, odometer etc...Dennis

Here's a pic of the wiring and switch...D

  • I made my own for our Terrain (same thing as the Equinox..just different sheet metal). Works just fine.
