I see everyone's point for and against pets of any kind in an RV, especially dogs.
However what is the big difference between someone having a dog on the road or at a non-rolling home??...not much. Not "fair" leaving them at home in the RV? Therefore it must be "not fair" to leave them alone at any type of home! At the non-rolling home you still have to wash feet, feed, brush, & in some cases pick up the poo. When we are gone for a few hours at home the dog stayed home alone with the cats. When we could not take him places when traveling...he stayed home with the cats. His input might have been "as long as I live with my humans...I don't care". For the most part adult well behaved dogs will just sleep while their owners are gone so the passage of time is nothing to them and if they consider the RV their home it doesn't seem matter to them either. They are just as excited about their people coming home whether they have been gone 5 minutes or 5 hours.
All of our previous pets have passed on, 2 only knew the RV as their only home the last 3 years of their life, and in fact died in the motorhome. They just loved being with us and us with them so anyplace we were was "home" to them.
We now have another cat and new puppy. When the dog is ready to travel he and the cat will indeed travel with us.
It has to be a personal choice whether to take pets along. Neither answer is wrong.
