With a TT or 5`er I could see it being an issue. but with a class A or C and a smaller dog I don`t see an issue. we travel a lot with our dog and he loves it. I`ve traveled as long as 8 hours with our Shepherd and he has no issues. when we stop for food or gas he goes for a walk. he loves being in and out of the trailer. now if we had a motorhome I don`t think I would choose a 100lb dog, but a smaller dog I would have no problem with.
Like you said you have to think long and hard and also do some homework.
I have a big dog too, dodge guy. I actually have two. One is a 93lb American Bulldog. (See pic in sig.) The other is a 43lb mix.(I gotta remember to put her in the sig.) Part terrier I think. We only have a 31ft Class C, but they go everywhere we have gone. Libby, the terrier, likes to sit in the passenger seat and soak up the heat while she watches out the window when we're parked. Bella, is ever happy napping on her pillow while we ride, or they sit on the floor behind us to look out the window.
It could be a chore to take them out, and sometimes it is, but if you really love dogs and bond with them and vise-versa, it's quality time. I think it really boils down to the question, are you a dog person or not? If you are, then you'll work it out where it is beneficial to you and your dog.
