GMAC/Nat General Insurance(Good Sam)

What a PITA! I severely damaged my rig on Memorial Day weekend. It took GMAC/NG five weeks to get an adjuster to the repair facility. I called the claim rep weekly and was told that it would happen within the week each time. It took another two weeks for the repair shop and the adjuster to come to an agreement. Now it has taken four weeks for new compartment doors to be sent (apparently they must be fabricated). I am told another 2 to 3 weeks for the doors to arrive at repair place. If I can count on 2-3 weeks for installation and paint, it will have been around 4 months. My point is, The insurance claim took half of that time. I expected the repairs to take a couple of months. Insurance only a couple of weeks at most. I will be reconsidering the Good Sam Insurance program. Any recommendations?

  • Motorhome while parked at residence, plugged into shore power. My inverter and ats (automatic transfer switch) were fried by electrical storm. There were numerous electrical storms over several days. claim made, was denied because lack of any evidence of "direct lightning strike" no entry or exit point to motorhome. First experience with GMAC.
  • We have GMAC insurance also and have had to make 2 claims. The first one was last spring when we had a major electrical storm that took out our micro/conv oven, inverter and front AC. I called and reported the claim that day and the adjuster was here within 2 days. Check was mailed to our RV dealer within 3 days. The second claim was 3 weeks ago when we were camping and a major rain storm came up so fast that we didn't have time to put anything away. The rain fell so hard it ripped our awning and bent the arms. This was on our first day of vacation. I called to report the claim and the insurance adjuster was there the very next morning at the campground. On our way home we stopped by our RV Dealer and he wrote up an estimate. Emailed our adjuster and a check was in the mail the very next day. I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for insurance.

When I had an engine fire about 20 miles out of Las Vegas Good Sam was great. Two tows, one to Oasis CG and the other to the Repair facility ( GS recommended, work guaranteed for as long as I own the rig. Repairs took a little under a month. Oh ya, $24,000.00 worth of damage with no hassle at all. With that kind of service, no need for me to switch insurers.

Kinda like the "worst service" thread.
    Ying & yang.
One man's complaint (about the same outfit) is another man's compliment..:R

OP - "cochise49" - you should post in one of the "Dear Marcus" forums. (In your case, GS Insurance)

    That's what they're on here for..:S

  • I believe the person was talking about RV insurance, not roadside assistance.
  • In a moment of STUPID I pumped gas into my diesel tank. Before I started the truck I realized what I had done. Called GS roadside assistance, they were Great. Had the truck towed to the campground we were staying at. The next day sent a tow truck to bring my TV to a repair facility. The only thing that went bad was they set me up to have the fuel tank drained at a PEP BOYS. Without going into every detail, I will not ever go to another PEP BOYS. I could have drained that tank faster than the guy they called a mechanic.

    Good Sam Roadside was great.:B
  • I have AAA and had a problem they set up a time and place at a repair shop, (camping world) to inspect it and they showed up on time and it was considered a total so sent me the money took the trailer and found a used one for the money I got. Same floor plan but older and better built and a I am a happy camper now. Had a 2008 forestriver ulta lite and now a Terry both 21 ft long.
  • This sounds suspiciously like a 'which roadside assistance is best' thread. I had major damage (self-inflicted) while covered by GS insurance. Emergency repairs to make me roadworthy again took 1.5 days total (finding the dealer and actual repair time). Final repairs took 1 week and involved removing and rebuilding the rear cap. I kept the RV until all necessary parts were on hand and the repair shop had the time scheduled. FWIW, it was one of GS's authorized service centers so there was no haggling over $$ amounts.
