Did you know Allisons are tested to beyond -40 on the cold end and over 120 on the hot end? (ambient temp) One of my friends help build and test one of the cold rooms used.
OK so I am personally involved in said testing for one of those non-Allison companies and I can assure you they are all tested to these levels (or beyond) regardless of manufacturer.
Just an example of the general public unaware of the automotive industry. No different than some of the comments on this forum like "Ford said they weren't putting a diesel in a half ton" or I took a plant tour somewhere and the tour guide gave me some inside scoop with a nod and a wink. This is the same industry that puts on full camo on vehicles with virtually unchanged exteriors and have product development cycles sometimes counted in years.
Just one example on a non Allison cold test if one was so inclined to actually look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDdYl-ECqMY - Cummins12V98Explorer III

In 2001, the allison was a big step up from the Ford and Dodge transmission options. However, when GM raised the bar IMHO it didn't take long for Dodge and Ford to come up with transmissions on par with the Allison.
Took Ford 5-10 years and ALLISON still has far better Quality Control.

If they are so good with all the HP and TQ GM's have now why is the tow rating ONLY 23k???
I say because the Allison is at it's limits. - Grit_dogNavigatorOuch. I take back what I said!
Didn't realize everyone was going to pile on..... - ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer:) Hi, I used to work at a Ford dealer; Across the street was a Chevrolet dealer. Behind the Chevrolet dealer was an Allison transmission shop. In, and around this shop, were piles of Allisons in need of repair. All transmissions, no matter who builds them, can and will fail.

Grit, You should know that by now. Piling on is common here, especially about pickups. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

It happens even to the best of US. :B - StirCrazyModeratorthat would be a waist of money for a Ford owner the 6 speed torque shift is a better tranny than the Alison.
the Alison was the best a while ago but notanymore.

I may be wrong but, I haven't heard of one them in years. Are you talking about early AMC transmissions ?
I know new process used to make transfer cases for 4X4s up until a few years ago. I don't who makes them now.
