goose ball hitch

I bought my truck used and it came with a goose ball hitch. I also have the jaw type 5th wheel hitch common to the rv industry. Since the G.B. is already in the truck I would like to know if there are any advatages to using the G.B. hitch.
Granted, I will have to buy an adapter for around $400, but that would be the same cost to swap out those same hitches.

  • Sell what you have and buy a B&W Companion. You will thank me and others who chime in.
  • Some 5th wheel manufacturers will void their warranty if you use a gooseneck adapter. So that tells you their position on it. But many people do use the adapters with no apparent problem. So it becomes a personal decision.

Reese does make the Goosebox adapter that supposedly is acceptable to some manufacturers as it has an air bag and shock absorbers. But it is more expensive.
  • Check with your RV manufacturer to determine if your pin box can be converted for a gooseneck adapter.
