Got a free generator today.
Since we've been gone for three months I haven't talked to one of the neighbors for a while. It's spring here and most of the snow is gone, so he was loading things up for a dump run. I went over to talk to him and noticed he'd loaded a Coleman 1850W Pulse generator into the truck with the rest of the stuff.
I looked at it for a while and he said to take it if I wanted it. Even though I already own eight generators, a man can never have too many of them - right? He said someone had given it to him and he'd used it twice in six years. It was a little ratty looking, but it had potential.
I hauled it across the street to my place and checked the oil. It was only about half full and had the dirtiest oil I've ever seen. I dumped the oil out before trying to start it and filled it with fresh oil. The fuel tank was empty so I put a slug of Sea Foam in it and then put about a half tank of gas in it. Here's the amazing part - two pulls and it started right up!
Ran it for 15 minutes and the oil looked just as bad as the original oil. I changed it five times before I got it clean. I'm glad an oil change uses such a little amount of oil. After each oil change it started on the first pull.
Checked the power output and everything is fine. The only problem I could find is one screw is missing. I ordered two new air filters and they'll be here next week.
Not bad for a stroll across the street to BS with the neighbor this morning.
