Has anyone camped around Lake Carlyle, IL

I would like to book a campsite right on the lake and have found a few federal campgrounds through Reserve America. The specific campgrounds I am referring to are Dam West and Coles Creek. When I view the campground map it looks like the spots are lakefront. For those of you that have been there are these spots truly lakefront or are there trees, hills or anything else that may interfere with walking to the lake.

  • We have stayed at Dam West several times. Great place with full hook up at some sites.
  • We just stayed at Dam West a month or so ago. Some of the sites have a bank that you have to walk down that can be a little steep, but not anything that would prevent most people from walking it.

  • Ustobefarmer - Thank you so much. The site we want isn't available until August. So hopefully the lake level will be down by then.
  • I live just west of Carlyle lake. The sites are truly lake front. Great sites. At this time the lake it quite high and some of the site are under water. The lake level is coming down, but a lot depends on how much rain we get. The corps is restricting the water output at the dam because they do not want to flood farm ground down stream. If you can reserve the spot that you want then they are open. If they are flooded they will be marked first come basis.
