Having problem with ramps hitting car frame

Some times like when going into gas stations the ramps on my tow dolly rub against the bottom of my car (Ford Fusion 2010) and bends the swivel plate up a inch or so, my ball hitch has about a 2 1/2" drop. My thinking is a flat ball hitch without any drop would solve the problem by tilting the ramps down. Has anyone else had this happen.

  • Its Master Tow, it only does it like turning on ramp a a gas sta. I'm going out to measure the hight. HF has a straight hitch, I think a saw one at Wall Mart. Reese K.
    Thanks for all info, Rob
  • Hitch height is adjusted by different ball mounts, either a drop or rise. Measure at the top of the ball.
  • I have a Master Tow dolly and the recommended hitch height is 18 inches. At that height, the ramps are about parallel to the road on a flat surface. Sounds like your ramps are high in the back, which will cause them to hit the vehicle. Adjust the hitch height so the ramps are level. Even when adjusted properly, the ramps could still hit the vehicle going over a very steep bump like you might find at a railroad crossing. But that would be an extreme circumstance.
  • Our Demco Kar Kaddy manual states that the hitch should be around 18 inches from the ground for best performance. I had to use a straight hitch to provide the right height. Straight hitches are not easy to find. Read your manual and see what height they recommend your hitch be from the ground.
