The premiums went up so much that they couldn't afford it anymore so the gave each employee 2400.00/year to spend on the insurance they will have to buy on the exchange. At least one of the employees is facing a premium of $1200.00/month. Just another unintended consequence of a law passed without understanding its impact.
Could be a case of their health insurance being a catastrophic plan and not having the minimums needed under ACA. You know, the plans that have very high deductibles when these people go to the hospital they won't be able to afford the visit because of the high deductibles. These are the ones the rest of us pay for.
If the employer was giving $2,400.00 towards health insurance prior to ACA-that's about what it would cover-a catastrophic plan.
Sometimes you have to "think" beyond the headlines/or lead story on the network news.
