Help with checking weights on possible new trailer

To start off please no bashing....
I am looking to order a new trailer and I am second guessing myself..

My truck:
2014 Ford F-150 SUPERCREW 4x4 heavy duty payload / max tow options
Payload 2214#

Possible new trailer:
2016 Primetime lacrosse 324 rst
Dry hitch 970#
Dry weight 8405#

With these numbers would I be good??
Weight police welcome.. ( I can't believe I typed this) lol
  • Receiver limit would be my only concern. If you can replace the OEM one for something more like 1400 pounds, go for it.
  • The receiver will be the limiting factor. I've yet to find anyone who makes a compatible upgraded hitch. Torklift has one for the F150....BUT, it cannot be installed on the HD with factory hitch. Unless they've changed something in the last year. We've had to keep our search to listed tongue weight of about 800 lbs. but I may just be too conservative. About to purchase an Open Range LT274 - tongue right at 800 lbs so I know I'll be closer to 1000+ loaded.
  • Thank everyone for your help. I have made my decision, we are going to look for a lighter trailer. It's a shame because lacrosse is one of the few with a bedroom bed slide. We love the layout of the lacrosse. O well we will keep looking.
    Thanks again!!!
  • Look at the Rockwood & Flagstaff Classic models. You will find the bedroom slides in them. And you will find them about 800 lbs or a little more lighter than what you have posted. My dry weight numbers were tongue wt 745# and dry weight 7500# per the yellow sticker. I added an additional Battery on the front. My real weights are. Tongue weight 1040# GVTW 8400 Truck Gross loaded and ready to roll 6520. Just for a comparisson.
My truck is a 2010 F150 very similar numbers to yours. My rig tows very well.
  • That slide on a front bedroom will generally have higher TW than non-slide. I can relate to you on the Lacrosse. I really like their RVs. The 336 is exactly what I'd love to have, but there are no 3-row SUVs in the last 8 years that are capable of towing it!

Keystone has a few models that are a little lighter like Outback 277, Laredo 314.
  • Your HD Payload F150 has the same #1150 receiver hitch my Max Tow F150 has... ;)

I know you've already decided on a less heavy trailer, and that's wise..

Best of luck with the search, as I'm sure there is a TT out there for you.

I would tend to agree, and your initial suspicions were right-on.

IMO even under conservative loading conditions the loaded tongue weight would be at least 1,200lbs taking into consideration the location of the 324RST's front bedroom wardrobe w/trunk storage and pass-thru storage.

As you are aware, a 32ft-plus TT handles much better with the loaded tongue weight in the 13% to 15% range, with 15% being more desirable.

  • Going to the battle creek show today to start the looking process ALL over again.

    The show starts next week!!!
