Honda CRV

We had a Blue Ox recommended shop install everything at once including our SMI braking system, the fuse disconnect switch, the wiring harness and the brake indicator light inside the RV's cab. Since the company does a lot of these, it was a very professional installation, much cleaner and faster than I would have done.

Depends on which brand base plate. I used Demco. Not hard. Had to drill 2 holes which you need very good bit for. Tempered steel frame. Had to squeeze the power steering cooler. Had to cut a few plastic tabs to allow the towing tabs to go through.

Taking the bumper cover off is intimidating but not hard. Lots of buttons and a few screws. Worst thing is I set it next to the car on the concrete and a gust of wind blew it over and it got a few minuscule scratches.

Next one I did, I sat it on a old bed spread and wrapped it up while it was off.

Hint; go to the junkyard and get a horn off of a Honda Accord and add it next the single factory horn while the cover is off.

For you guys who have a later model (2010-2014) Honda CRV, how difficult is it to install the tow base plate? What mods are necessary?

We tow a 2 wheel drive, 2014 CRV with our gas motorhome. We use a Blue Ox baseplate and their Avail tow bar. We have an SMI stay in Play Duo braking system and a fuse disconnect switch.

Positives: easy to set up, light and gets reasonable gas mileage when driven. The Honda user manual supports towing and gives clear instructions on vehicle preparation.

Negatives: takes about 5 minutes running each day (to lubricate the transmission) before we tow and after 8 hrs towing.
Also, there is not as much leg room as I would like, I am 6'3".

We bought a 2012 2WD LX a few months ago. Looking for a 2013 or 2014, just to get as new as possible but this one had very low miles, a roof rack, leather and all the bells and whistles but most of all, it's the one my wife liked.

Put the Roadmaster base plate in myself (Youtube is great). Couldn't be happier.

We intend to do a coast to coast trip next year and I really don't want to drag my truck along again. We towed it coast to coast two years ago, it was okay, but a smaller car would make it much simpler. My old coach was a rocket and the truck really didn't matter much.....the new coach has the same engine, but is 5K heavier and more aero dynamically challenged. I would like to put it on a 3K diet by changing to a small car.

I have a friend that has a 2011 Hyundai Tucson (very roomy) with a 5 speed. I did the install of his tow bar and lighting. He doesn't use his coach much and he keeps telling me he's ready to sell his RV and the car. I've been holding out, the car is in really nice shape, but I will probably have to pull the trigger on something after the first of the year if he doesn't want to sell it.

I would think the labor costs of transfer would make it not a doable thing.
That is if you get a 2012 to 2014 CRV

Thanks....good info....I'll start looking the first of the year for a 2012-2014 CRV EX. I know there are other tow cars, but I want to reduce the weight, size and the amount of car I have to wash. Some of the midsize SUV's really don't give me the weight savings I'm looking for. I'm towing 6500 pounds now.

What does your Plug and Play break? :R

We have a 2012 CRV as our toad. Absolutely the best car we have ever had and that isn't just counting it as a toad. We love it. You will not be disappointed. We did have a toggle switch installed to disconnect the radio while towing. Just didn't want to take any chances of a dead battery. We have the Plug and Play break system which is great for this car.
