I bought mine at CalRanch a couple of months ago.
At the time they were giving a $100 gift card with Honda Gen purchase. On top of that I got a 10% discount by signing up for their credit card. I've seen some similar deals since then.
I haven't done the cc sign-up thing in many years, and this one will be cancelled soon. But to get a true Honda for about $800 (tax was on regular $1K price), it was worth it.
For me one of the more important considerations was getting parts or service for my generator when it needs it. For that Honda beat out Yamaha locally. I've already installed and used the high altitude jet for my dry camping (8,200' and 10,000' campsites).
I did see one of the $600 knock-offs Costco sells at last weekend's CG and it sounded reasonably quiet. But who can service it 2 years from now?
