Everyone of us know that slamming on the brakes at highway speed is a dangerous last resort, that can result in loss of control and roll over
And the side of the road at the time of passing was soft sand
He pulled over when he got to a section that was hard packed ground
The class A driver was an idiot, driving faster than all other prevailing traffic, and passing everybody on a two lane black top
Could have been mitigating circumstances like, the Class A driver had to go pee real bad or shat his pants and wanted to get where he could remove them asap....
Or he was running late and going to lose out on that primo campsite that he stayed up until midnight 12 months earlier to book, as soon as the reservations website for the coveted campground opened for the next season. With a huge non-refundable deposit riding on him being there on time. - MDKMDKExplorer

It's not who is right, it's who is left. I would've profiled that guy when he was in my rear view mirror. Category: organ donor
I would've then helped him pass me. I know how to pass, and how to be passed.
x2. Defensive driving sometimes means letting those who wish to drive faster go through as quickly as possible, allowing them to get as far away from us as possible. - SidecarFlipExplorer III

Guess thats why I always drive slightly below the posted limit, leave plenty of space between me and the next vehicle and when I get passed, I immediately reposition myself to maintain assured clear distance. I'm never in any hurry to get anywhere. I'll die soon enough without being stupid. - CavemanCharlieExplorer IIIIt is hard to tell from the video for sure. Obviously the passing vehicle is a idiot. It is a dotted line and therefore a passing zone so he should have been able to look far enough ahead and do his pass safely. But, he didn't.
The creator of the video does say that he is in pack of 8 RV's and it can be frustrating to get stuck behind a long line of vehicles.
That being said the passing vehicle screwed up bad if he is running cars off of the road.
And, it is hard to tell from the video but, it looks like the creator of the video could have done a better job of braking and allowing the idiot in the passing vehicle to get back over into the right lane.
The creator of the video says that he can not get onto the shoulder because it is too soft. But, he also says he is down to 45mph at one point. I wonder if he could have gotten over onto the shoulder at 45 ?? Braking harder and getting slower,, before pulling onto the shoulder,! would have been better yet. And, I can't tell what the shoulder is like from looking at the video but, we have soft gravel roads around here and we drive on them at 55 or better.
Nobody was being very nice to each other that day. (Or so it seems. I can't tell for sure of course) - MDKMDKExplorer

Uhmmm: the guy videoing has no brake pedal? Was willing to just let this happen?
x2. Manufactured drama for the dashcam. I've seen worse by cars and 18 wheelers. - MrWizardModeratorI watched that video

Then the guy recording seen he was backing and down and sped up to get him back behin him. The guy passing shouldn’t have a license anymore.
- SusanDallasExplorerI agree that it takes two to tango. Even though the RV overtaking him is crazy, he contributed to the dangerous situation by not slowing down to let the RV back into his lane. It looked like a dangerous game of chicken to me. Both drivers would have been responsible if someone had been killed.
I agree that for the larger vehicles there should be state driving tests before you can get on the road with these big rigs.
It amazes me how people have seemed to have lost all sense of values. Patience and politeness would avoid a lot of accidents. People do speed up if you put your indicator on to change lanes and inpatient people drive like crazy to overtake you. Usually, you pull up right behind them at the next stoplight. So what have they gained? - bcbouyExplorerit's also incumbent on the person doing the passing to do it when it's safe and not expect everyone else to get out of the way.anyone defending this guys driving needs remedial driving lessons.it's clear in the video that there was not room to leapfrog 2 motorists in that rv.he had no buisness trying in the first place.
- LynnmorExplorerWhat if, what if! To make judgements about the guy doing the video is not right. What if both hit the brakes? What if both hit the gas? It's easy to be an armchair quarterback.
