The adjustment that I mention above is for the pitch of the awning. Personally, I like to have the awning give me the most view, but provide the best shade. That means I need to be able to adjust the pitch from pretty flat to fairly steep. Some folks do not care or ever change the pitch, no worries, I indicated that it was my opinion.
As for the water pooling, I have never had that since the first time out with our first trailer... never had it again.
